What Does an Author Visit Look Like?

One engaging school-wide assembly, 1-2 small groups student workshops, and workshop students will receive a Young Author Certificate.

Part one

The school-wide assembly

During a half-day program, we lead a high-energy, school-wide assembly followed by small-group writing workshops (up to 10 students each). These sessions are hands-on, engaging, and designed to help students generate original ideas, take creative risks, and leave feeling proud of their work.

By the end of the visit, they walk away with a Young Author Certificate and, more importantly, a stronger belief that their ideas matter, and they can write!

Cynthia Barbera, author and creator of Fiction Factory Workshops

Cynthia Barbera

Author and creator of Fiction Factory Workshops.

Cynthia Barbera is the author of Secrets from the Sky, the first book in The Youngest Arrivals series. The concluding novel, Beneath the Falling Sky, will be released in December 2026. She also co-authored the middle grade novel with Jane White, Henry and the Aliens

The workshop grew out of the same question she gets asked at every school : where do you get your ideas. The honest answer, all students have an idea for a book....they just need the courage to write it down.

Cover of Secrets from the Sky Cover of Henry and the Aliens

Both titles are available now. Beneath the Falling Sky closes the series in December 2026.

Think. Create. Write. Repeat.

Students walk into the workshop with nothing written down. They walk out with a beginning of their own story and a Young Author's Certificate.
